Voorbeelden van oorzaken van heupklachten zijn heupartrose. overbelasting van spieren door sport of een val. Afhankelijk van de oorzaak van de klacht wordt samen met de fysiotherapeut een passend behandelplan opgesteld. Bij bijvoorbeeld een nieuwe heup, is het wenselijk dat de therapeut (in het begin van de revalidatie) aan huis komt om begeleiding te bieden.
